with Robert Renard Tanzorch<br \/>\n(Odeon 0-25913 a mx 11734)\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0June 23, 1937<\/p>\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-1218-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.early1900s.org\/notes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Hans-Sohnker-und-die-Metropol-Vokalisten-Robert-Renard-Tanzorch-Fur-wen-macht-eine-Frau-sich-schon.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.early1900s.org\/notes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Hans-Sohnker-und-die-Metropol-Vokalisten-Robert-Renard-Tanzorch-Fur-wen-macht-eine-Frau-sich-schon.mp3\">https:\/\/www.early1900s.org\/notes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Hans-Sohnker-und-die-Metropol-Vokalisten-Robert-Renard-Tanzorch-Fur-wen-macht-eine-Frau-sich-schon.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Here is a very catchy tune from the 1937 German film <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0029720\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Der Unwiderstehliche<\/em><\/a> (<em>The Irresistible Man<\/em>), which starred <a href=\"https:\/\/www-filmportal-de.translate.goog\/person\/hans-soehnker_6f931174304b430b82c53ea4b2eb8c6e?_x_tr_sl=auto&amp;_x_tr_tl=en&amp;_x_tr_hl=en&amp;_x_tr_pto=wapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hans S\u00f6hnker<\/a>, who also performs the vocal on this recording.\u00a0 The song&#8217;s title translates to &#8220;Who Does A Woman Make Herself Beautiful For?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Hans S\u00f6hnker was a well-known actor who appeared in over 100 films between 1933 and 1980.\u00a0 During World War II, S\u00f6hnker lived a double life, obediently appearing in propaganda films while, at the same time, using his summer house to hide Jews from the authorities.\u00a0 He was one of a small group of actors and actresses who were part of a network that smuggled Jews out of Nazi German to the safety of Switzerland.\u00a0 Had he been caught, it would almost certainly have cost him his life.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/de-m-wikipedia-org.translate.goog\/wiki\/Die_Metropol-Vokalisten?_x_tr_sl=auto&amp;_x_tr_tl=en&amp;_x_tr_hl=en&amp;_x_tr_pto=wapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Metropol-Vokalisten<\/a> was a vocal quartet that patterned itself after the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Comedian_Harmonists\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Comedian Harmonists<\/a> (who, in turn, patterned themselves after imported recordings by the American harmony group <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Revelers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Revelers<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Robert Renard was one of many recording pseudonyms used by <a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Otto_Dobrindt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Otto Dobrindt&#8217;s<\/a> in-house orchestra for various record labels produced by the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Carl_Lindstr%C3%B6m_Company\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carl Lindstr\u00f6m Company, <\/a>such as Odeon, Parlophon, Gloria, and others.<\/p>\n<p>This recording was made in the Lindstr\u00f6m recording studios in Berlin at<br \/>\n26 Schlesische Stra\u00dfe.\u00a0 The <a href=\"https:\/\/cpipg.com\/en\/portfolio\/Schellack-Hofe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">huge complex<\/a>, which included a record pressing plant, printing plant, and company offices, survived the war and is still in use by a variety of tenants.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;F\u00fcr wen macht eine Frau sich sch\u00f6n&#8221;
